Creative Writing & Essays

Carinya’s creative writing has been published in various publications, including The London Reader, Commonwealth Writers’ ADDA Stories and The Guyana Annual.

She was shortlisted for the Flipside Festival’s 2017 Green Alphabet Writing Prize and Rebel Women Lit’s Caribbean Readers’ Award (Non Fiction – Individual Pieces) 2020; and longlisted for Mslexia’s Short Story Competition 2021.

She was also selected by Kendal Mountain Literature Festival to be part of its Open Mountain showcase in 2021 (see below), and was a guest writer on the SHEroes project in Lewisham in 2022.

We were so thrilled to be bring six amazing writers together again for Open Mountain 2021. The online event was presented by judges Kate Davis and Polly Atkin, and featured readings from selected writers Becca Grady, Carinya Sharples, Erin Niimi
Longhurst, Lynn Buckle, Paula Knight and Sarah Doyle.
