A night of spoken word and music at Duke Lodge last night, organised by poet & UG Communications Studies student Renata Burnette. Kudos to her and her friends for putting together the show and packing out the room. Was a pleasure to meet and gyaff a while with Neville 'Mighty Chief' Calistro today while taking him a CD copy of the BBC package I produced, which included a clip from his song 'Wajali'. As well as being the first Amerindian calypsonian, he claims the title of creator of the Cari-Mari style (mixing calypso with mari-mari beats from Guyana's coastal villages). I'll be back soon to record some tunes and memories... video makers very welcome!
